Wallace, Idaho & Deer Lodge, Montana, USA (July 2004)

Wallace, a small town in Idaho, is famous for its silver. I paid quite a short visit(40 minutes) on my way from Yellowstone back to Seattle. Although it is a quite small town, it is clean and well decorated. It has a long history of silver mining. So, you can buy very cheap and pretty silver accounterment. It is a town for tourist. There are some tour plans designed for visiting the old mine and some museums to introduce the history of Wallace. By the way, the icecrean there is really huge.

Deer Lodge is a even smaller town on the way in Montana. Actually, it is on the I-90 commercial. All the stores and restaurant are along the street. Although the name sounds pretty, it is famous for an old fashioned prison. It's a pity that I fogot to take a picture of that prison. We had lunch there and the steak there is delicious and very juicy. We also got a ticket for overspeed and fined 50 bucks. :(

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA (July 2004)

Yellowstone locates at the border of Montana and Wyoming. It might be the most famous national park in the US. It is also the first one which date back to 19th century. It is famous for its unique physiognomy because of the terristrial. Geysers, hot springs, mud volcanos are everywhere in the park. Also, the park is famous for its diverse species. There are elks, buffalos, wolves, mooses, pronghorn deers, grizzly bear and so on.

Yellowstone is really colorful because of those springs and the yellow rock, especially those near the famous yellowstone fall.

Because of the high altitude, the temperature there is really low--36F even in late July. So, a warm sleeping bag and warm clothes are quite necessary.

Glacier National Park, Montana, USA (July 2004)

Glacier locates at the border of Canada and USA. The portion in Canada is called Waterton while the part in USA is called Glacier. Glacier is famous for its spectacular mountains, limpid lakes and many glacier. The mountain goat is the simbol of the national park because you can see them everywhere.

The landscape there is quite typical American. Everything is so huge and broad. You can not imagine how the view could be unless you were there. That also means you will have quite a lot of hiking to reach the destination. It was also my first time for camping in the wild. We experienced the thunder storm on the first night. Everything in the tent is wet due to a mistake. Luckily, the facility in the camp ground is good enough for me to get everything dry soon.
Althought it is called Glacier, it is not that cold in summer. But a rain coat is quite necessary.

Orcas, San Juan Island, Washington, USA (July 2004)

The trip to Orcas Island is for the MF ZU Reunion 2004. The reunion only has 3 days. We rent thre three houses which is supposed to accomodate near 30 people. But, only half could made it. Thus, I got a huge bedroom for all the three days. Because the house I live has the best view, it became the main activity place for BBQ, football and killing game. We had one hiking on the last day. On top of the hill, you can see the view on the left. Actually, you can see many snow mountains around, including the Mt. Rainier, Vancouver Island etc.

Seattle, Washington, USA (June 2004)

Seattle is the capital city of Washington State. It is 2.5 hours drive south to Vancouver. Thus, the two cities has very similar climate and city style. Actually, I only took one day trip around the downtown area.

The city looks much older than Vancouver. All the buildings looks in grey and not as prospous as those in Vancouver downtown. Less plants as well. Maybe it just because of the cloudy weather that day. The downtown area does not leave me good impression. There are several spots that worth visting. The Space Needle, the Pioneer Square, the Lincoln Park and so on.
In addition, the Chinatown there is kind of famous because of the long history. Quite similar with the one in Vancouver. But really have a good restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious dinner.

Victoria, British Columbia, Canada (December 2003)

Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia in Canada. It's on the big Vancouver Island to the east of Vancouver city. You need to take both bus and Ferry to get there from Vancouver. For those who haven't taken ferry on the sea, it is really an exciting experience to see the sun rise on the horizon.

Actually, Victoria is a very small city on the island. It is famous for its British style buildings and the world famous Butchart Garden. The picture on the left is taken in front of the parliament of Victoria. As you can see, it is really an European style building. It is where the province government locates. Another famous building is the Empire Hotel. All of these buildings are around the Inner Harbor.
The picture on the right is in Butchart Garden. It is famous for its colorful and various plants. Unfortunately, when I visited it in winter, I saw nothing at all.

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (Sep.2003--)

Vancouver is the city where I study for my master's degree. My school, University of British Columbia, locates at the west point of Vancouver which is called Point Grey. Vancouver is really the most beautiful city among all that I have ever been to. It is known to be the top one city for residence in the world. I am so glad that I can stay here for two years. It's a city which has both nature and the modern life.

Stanley Park is one of the most famous place of intest in the city because it is right at the centre of the city. It is really a nice place to go in the city, especially in the sunny days. Cycling, Roller Skating and Jogging are the three common seen sports done in the park. The picture on the left is taken in front of the totem pole in Stanley. The totem poles are symbol of the first nation in Canada.
Another famous place here is the Capilano Suspension Bridge. It is the longest suspension bridge in the world. You can see how long it is from the picture on the right. If you have acrophobia, you should really think twice wheather to go or not. ^-^

Jiu Zhai Gou, Emei Mt., Sichuan, China (August 2003)

Jiu Zhai Gou is really a legendary valley. It is famous for its incredibly pure and diverse colors. All the lakes there are called "Son of Sea" because people there have never seen the sea, they just name it this way so that they feel closer to the sea. As you can see on the left, the color of the lake is really amazingly green. Also, it is so clean that you can easily seen the bottom. Some of the lakes there are more than 100 metres deep. Looking deep into it made me feel thrilled. The best season is autumn when all the trees there turns to different colors.

Emei Mt. is famous for Buddism. There are lots of temples on top of it. I can not remember its exact altitude, but I am sure it is more than 3300 metres above the sea level. The picture on the right is taken in front of the largest temple on the top of the mountaion which is called the "Golden Top".

Los Angeles, California, USA (October 2001, August 2002)

L.A. is really a huge city. It spread over the west coast of the USA. I have been there twice. First time, I just bypass it on my trip to Chile. I stayed only one day. The only place I had been to that time is the Universal Studio. Whatever you saw on movies, you see them there. For example, Terminator, Back to Future, U571, Mummy, etc. I really enjoyed the virtual reality for the movie "Back to Future".

The second time I go to L.A., I spent one week to stay with my cousin's family there. I went to some more interesting spots there. For example, the Six Flag. Screamings are heard everywhere, but it is really full of fun. Also, I went to the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood where the Oscar holds every year. Huntington Library is another great place I visitied. As a matter of face, it is rather a garden than a library. Maybe it should be called botanic library because there are so many different species.

San Diego, California, USA (Auguest 2002)

Actually, I only paid one day visit to San Diego to one of my relative there. I like the weather and environment there. It is not that hot in summer as in L.A.. There are more beautiful plants and flowers there. Because it is very close to Mexico, people often cross the border to Mexico to enjoy the great sea food there.

The Coronado Island near San Diego is a great place for travellers. There is also a Navy Base in the harbor. The island is small, but it has a famous hotel called Hotel Del Coronado. I learnt that many US presidents once stayed there. I only got the chance to walk in the hotel and along the beach.

New Orleans, Louisiana, USA (August 2002)

New Orleans is the capital city of Louisiana in the south part of USA. It is famous for its African American culture. It's the origin of Jazz music. Everyone there seems to be a musician. They can dance and sing quite well. You can not imagine that they even play Jazz at the end of a funeral instead of mourning. It's really different from Chinese culture.

The most famous place there is the French Quarter. It is named because there were once many French there. That's a area with about 5 by 5 blocks. There are quite a lot of pubs there. Every night, after 10pm, it becomes crowded everywhere. People come here to enjoy the Jazz and the pub culture.

The Mississippi River flows across the city. The picture above is takn on a boat cruising on the river. The dawn there is really beautiful. Altough, in the day time, there is nothing special with the river, it may be famous because of so many stories happened around it.

Beijing , China (January 2002)

Because I live in the south part of China, I seldom got any chance to go to those cities in the north. I went to Beijing at the beginning of 2002 for the first time. Fortunately, the weather in winter there is comfortable. Not so cold as I expected. I like walking in the sunshine and feel the cold breeze in a winter morning. That makes me feel refreshed. Although I stayed there for nearly a month, I only got four full days for traveling. The city does make very good impression on me, altough many of my friends do not agree. Maybe, it was the typical Chinese culture and history that attracted. All the ancient architectures remind me of the great culture and long history of my own country. You can not imagine the feeling to walk in such a city that even some neglectable spots would have a history longer than a thousand. There might be an endless story as well.

Because the city has been the capital of the country for a thousand years, there are quite a lot of ancient architectures all around the city including the Forbiden City, the Great Wall, the Summer Palace, etc. The picture above is taken on the Great Wall. On top of it, you can really understand what "endless" means. It's really hard to imagine how human beings can build such a spectacular architecture. That's why the Great Wall becomes the symbol of China and Chinese culture. It well reflect the nature of Chinese people--Diligent, Brave,Intelligent and unconquerable. The picture on the right is taken inside the Forbiden City, which is another symbol of China. It best reflects the prime technique of architecture in ancient China. Also, the treasures there are also attractive to the travellers.

Temuco, Chile (October 2001)

I really felt grateful to have the opportunity to visit Chile, which is right at the opposite pisition on the earth from China. The culture there is also completely different which attracted me a lot. The people there showed great hospitality to us. Most people there can not speak English, which made shopping very interesting. Using body language for bargin is really fun. ^-^

The chilean people must be those that love dancing and singing most in the world. Almost all are near professional. There are so many different kinds of dances including some from other countries in South America.

Chile is famous for its volcanos all over the country, the incredibly long coastline and the mysterious Easter Island. Unfortunately, the island is too far away to the west of the country, I didn't have time to go there.

Temuco is the third largest city in Chile. But actually, it is not large and does not have many citizens there. Luck enough, I got the chance to visit a typical Chilean farm. The picture on the left was me in the typical Chilean national costume--big hat and mantle. I also got a chance to ride a horse. Actually, it was the first time I ride a horse on my own.

Washington D.C., USA (November 2000)

It was my first time to go to the USA. After almost 20 hours air travl, I finally arrive the destination. That was also the first time I sat on the plane for more than 13 hours without any stop. It was really painful. Everything looks huge to me in US. Huge dishes, huge people, huge subway halls etc. Because it was the first time I went to USA, there are quite a lot of interesting stories. The "Pharmacy" does not only sell medicine. The shops close before 8pm. Two dishes might blow you up...

The city looks beautiful, especially at the time I was there. Altough it is the capital of the world leading country, it is very quite as if it is just a small town. The picture on the left is taken in front of the Congress Hall. You might be familiar with the background in the right picture. Yes, one of the scene of "Forest Gump" was taken in the pool in front of the Washington Memorial. The famous Lincoln Memorial is also around there.

New York City, USA (November 2000)

I went to New York City at the same time as I went to Washingtion D.C.. If you have ever been there, you would know why Ladan has so much interest in it. It deserves the fame as the world centre. Skyscrapers spread all over Manhattan. There are also something very interesting. Carriages in the Central Park leave a deep trail on the road. The Wall street is only a 5 metres wide path overed with stone...

Statue of Liberty has been the symbol of New York, or even the whole country. I spent one day to visit the Elice Island. It was so cold in New York even in November. Standing by the side of the sea is a difficult task because of the strong and cold wind. I also spent one and a half hours to climb up to the crown of the statue. But it was only a small square with only about 2 square metres. I even can not stand up there.

I also went to the Atlantic City during the trip to New York. The huge Casino city shocked me a lot. I became to understand how money can destroy a person.

In all, I don't like the city at all. It's too crowded, dirty and unsafe.

Tokyo, Japan (July 1997)

The trip to Japan was the first time I stepped out of my motherland. Because, in 1996, China hadn't developed well enough as it is now, the trip was definitely a shock to me. The advanced technology, the various goods, and colorful neon billboard flashed around me. It is amazing that a city huge like that can be that clean. It is more amazing that a huge city with such a dense population can have so smooth transportation.

I lived beside a big garden in Tokyo then. I have to admit that the Japanese Gardening deserve its world fame, because it is really a kind of art.

The Fuji Mt. in summer did not look as it is in most beautiful pictures. There is no snow covering the top. People said it was because of the greenhouse effect. I reached up to 2500 metres in altitude.

Disney Land locates on a man made island near Tokyo. The picture on the left was taken there. If you have never been to Disney, you definitely need to experience the world built by the fairy tales.
