Un-Distinguished Lecture Series (UDLS)

The Un-Distinguished Lecture Series (UDLS) is a series of free, casual lectures on a variety of topics held Fridays at 5:00 in the 8th floor boardroom (X836) of the ICICS/CS building at UBC, Vancouver. These are given by and for students, staff, and faculty at UBC; though they've been from computer science primarily, all are welcome. The series has included over 130 lectures since it first began in early 2007 (see History of UDLS).

For more information, email Mihir or Nathan.

Call for speakers

The UDLS is fueled by participation. We need volunteer speakers. Any topic. It's all for fun. Give a lecture. Don't be shy. We don't bite.

For Speakers

Do

  • present something that your average grad student will understand and appreciate;
  • be sure that your lecture is at least one of the following:
    • interesting,
    • useful,
    • relevant;
  • post your slides and abstract on the UDLS website (How to archive your talk)

Don't

  • repeat a project or thesis presentation;
  • speak for much more than thirty minutes
    (this usually leads to heckling from the beer czar)

Lecture Ideas

See list on the left - just about anything goes.
