bio

Hi. I am Raymond Ng. I am a professor of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia. I joined UBC as an assistant professor in 1992. UBC is my alma mater, as I obtained the BSc. (Hons.) degree in Computer Science in 1986. I continued my studies at the University of Waterloo, where I got the M.Math. degree in Computer Science in 1988.  Then I went to the University of Maryland, College Park to pursue my doctoral studies, and graduated with the PhD degree in Computer Science in 1992.

My research interests include health informatics, bioinformatics, text analysis and summarization, data mining, image and multimedia databases, and uncertainty reasoning.

I was as associate editor for the VLDB journal and IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering. I co-chaired the program committee of the 2002 ACM SIGKDD conference and the 2009 International Conference on Data Engineering. I was the co-general chair of the 2008 ACM SIGMOD conference.

My personal interests include travel, photography and playing cello.
