I completed my MSc in computer science at the University of British Columbia in 2009. I was supervised by Giuseppe Carenini.
My research interests include human–computer interaction, visualization, and human language.

At UBC I took
I have a BCMPH, specialization in cognitive science, from Queen’s University.
My thesis was titled A Multimedia Interface for Facilitating Comparisons of Opinions. It details my work on the visualization and summarization of opinions extracted automatically from natural language text such as customer reviews.
Much of my thesis work was published and presented at the 2009 Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces. The paper is available online via the ACM.
I’ve worked together with Raymond Ng, Jackie CK Cheung, and Ivan Zhao.
I was a teaching assistant for Intro. to HCI Methods in the 2008–9 winter term.
I’ve TA’d Computers and Society at UBC and Cognitive Psychology at Queen’s.
Emt, Uwe, and I founded the Un-Distinguished Lecture Series, an ongoing, student-run lecture series.
I’ve given a number of presentations at UDLS and in my courses; many of my slide decks are available on the web.
Inkling magazine published an article I wrote on TEG in trauma.
