Welcome to my blog...It's more of an occasional-random-quirky-thought blog or a check-out-this-cool-link blog than one of those this-is-what-i-had-for-breakfast-today-and-these-are-my-feelings-about-life blogs and it's definitely not one of those awful i'm-useful-and-have-important-things-to-say-and-i'm-contributing-to-society blogs. Enjoy.

Okay... so some time last night my car was broken into. I was parked in my student housing underground parkade, which is locked. It looks like they ripped off my antenna and tried to force open the passenger window... then they just smashed it. The RCMP officer who investigated it checked over my car for fingerprints, but didn't find any good ones. He said that it was most likely a bunch of "semi-organized" drug users who have been stealing stuff from all over campus. I must confess that I thought the 'ripping off the car antenna' trick was kind of clever. Four other cars were broken into that same night.

The car damage wasn't that big of a deal... it was ~$1800, but there's only a $100 comprehensive deductible on my auto insurance. However... what was very upsetting was what was stolen from my car -- about half of my DJ equipment. My entire PA system... speakers, subwoofer, stands, cases, cables... gone and also a box of CDs, which I describe here.

It was about $3500 in hardware and 370 CDs, which if you value at say $10 each brings the grand total to $7k. When it first happened, I had a mixed reaction, because yeah, they stole a lot of stuff, but it was a bunch of CDs I don't listen to very often, and I am insured, and now I can get a bunch of new equipment. But It turns out that there is a special clause in my house insurance that says only $2500 of equipment is covered for stuff in your automobile. So now I'm really bummed.

I thought a lot about what I was going to do, and I've decided I'm going to buy the exact same versions of most of my gear, but this time I'm gong to buy used (my stuff was new). Kind of depressing, but I guess that's life. Needless to say, I'm never going to leave my gear in my car overnight again, even if it means waking up all of my neighbours as I arrive home at 3am and clunk around with it all.

okay... so I just have to share/document this funny story. I'm at the Cupid's Ball @ the Commodore Ballroom. Fun time. Anyway, I meet a terrific young woman, and we had a lot of fun dancing. She was really funny, and reminded me of a young Alexandra Wentworth... best known to people now as Shmoopy from the Seinfeld episode The Soup Nazi. At the end of the night I give her my contact info, and she says, in a quite matter-of-fact manner:

SHMOOPY: Look, I'm NOT going to date you.
[pause]
SHMOOPY: But I will e-mail you

Which was fine... just kinda funny
