Chemistry Visualization
During the summer of 2005, I worked as a research assistant for Bruce Gooch at Northwestern University. My research was part of a collaboration between the computer science and chemistry departments. I was researching new visualizations methods for solid state chemical compounds. I used the Maya 3D Modeling package to visualize and interact with complex molecular structures. The data defining the molecular structures is stored in Crystallographic Information Files (CIF). The intention was to parse these CIF files, extract the data relevant to visualization, and use MEL scripts to replicate the molecular structures. I developed a customized Maya toolbar and user interfaces for chemistry visualizations. Here is an unpublished paper from the project: [PDF] The project's progress can be tracked at the original website.
